What to do in Itacimirim.

Itacimirim is a district of Camaçari, on the Costa dos Coqueiros, just north of Guarajuba. More secluded and bucolic, the beach is marked by the meeting of the Pojuca River and the sea and by an unhurried pace of life — the right destination for those seeking contact with nature and quiet.

The beaches

Praia da Barra

Where the Pojuca River meets the sea, on the border between Camaçari and Mata de São João. You alternate between sea and river bathing, and the river mouth forms natural pools perfect for a swim.

Praia da Espera

One of the most beautiful on the coast, with coconut palms, a long stretch of sand and fishing boats. With shallow waters, it is even better at low tide — great for families.

Praia do Surf

As the name says, the surfers’ favourite, with waves that invite surfing and windsurfing.

Getting there

Itacimirim is about 48 km from Salvador Airport (roughly an hour's drive), on the North Coast of Bahia.

Practical tips

  • Low tide is the best time for river bathing and the shallow waters of Praia da Espera.
  • The area is quieter and has less infrastructure than Guarajuba — part of its charm. Bring the essentials.
