The beaches

01

Praia dos Corais

Calm waters ringed by reefs, with natural pools. One of the most peaceful and safe beaches in the region, great for families with children.

02

Genipabu

At low tide, natural pools of crystal-clear water appear; the largest and best known is the so-called Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon).

03

Praia do Surf

Where the waves pick up strength — the favourite spot for surfers and windsurfers, with a fine view over the whole shoreline.

What to do

Natural pools

Bathe in the pools that form among the reefs. Plan ahead: they appear at low tide.

Boat trips

Departures along the shore to watch dolphins and swim in the natural pools.

Seafront cycle path

Walk or cycle by the sea, along the whole Guarajuba promenade.

Tamar Project

Sea-turtle conservation centre, in Praia do Forte, about 20 minutes away.

Garcia d'Ávila Castle

Ruins of a 16th-century building, in the Praia do Forte area, amid the coastal vegetation.

Surf and windsurf

At Praia do Surf, where the waves invite you in for much of the year.

Where to eat

The star is the moqueca — fish, prawn or crab —, alongside bobó de camarão (prawns in a cassava-and-coconut cream), the freshest seafood, acarajé and tropical fruit. A few names that tend to feature among the favourites of the region’s regulars:
